Be a Champion

Safe Routes to Schools activities are driven by dedicated and enthusiastic champions at each school. Champions come in all forms: parents, teachers, or school administrators. The role of the SR2S Champion is to lead events and activities at the school, striving to get more kids and families to walk, bike, carpool or take transit to school. Champions organize events, with help from the SR2S team, attend task force meetings in order to get free event materials, and can always contact a site coordinator if there are questions. Each school’s needs are different, so our program works to customize activities to meet the needs of each school community.

What It Takes:

• Champions organize fun activities like Walking School Buses or the Golden Sneaker Contest
• Attend Task Force meetings to stay up-to-date on SR2S activities
• Use your creativity to come up with new ideas and inspiration for getting students excited about walking and biking
• Act as liaison for special activities, such as site assessments
