In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and school closures, and in accordance with Alameda County Public Health Department recommendations, we are cancelling all Safe Routes to Schools events until further notice. This includes travel hand tallies.
Moving forward, SR2S planning will continue to reflect guidance from elected officials and public health experts. We will be sure to communicate any change in event status as soon as new decisions are made. In the meantime, we wanted to share a few of the Centers for Disease Control’s tips for stopping the coronavirus’s spread:
– Avoid close contact with people who are sick
– Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and then throw the tissue away
– Avoid touching your face
– Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that people touch frequently
– If you are sick, stay home unless you’re traveling to get medical care
– Wash your hands often with soap and water, and for at least 20 seconds
You can find more detailed resources for navigating this time—including staying mentally healthy—on the Alameda County Public Health Department’s website.
We are sad to make this announcement, but we also know that these steps are a necessary part of achieving the program’s ultimate goal: safe and healthy students and communities. We’re all in this together—even when we have to be physically apart—and we look forward to working with you on the steps ahead of us.
