Youth Transit Ambassador Pilot Program – Job Announcement

Youth Transit Ambassador Pilot Program – Job Announcement

Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) is piloting a peer-to-peer Transit Ambassador program for Bay Area transit systems among students in San Lorenzo and Fremont. This is a paid opportunity for students who know the transit system well, aged 15 to 21, interested in assisting new riders to learn about to: read schedules, plan a trip, how to use transfers, pay the fare, use passes, etc. Transit Ambassadors offer assurance, experience, information and a friendly face to passengers.

To ensure that as many route as possible are covered, each Ambassador is selected based on how often they use the Bay Area transit systems. They are required to be regular riders, riding at least twice a week to school or other destinations.

Prior to working with new riders, Ambassadors attend an orientation and training session, conducted by a SR2S team member. Training includes an overview of transit systems, basic customer service skills training, and a discussion of participant responsibilities. During their term of service, Ambassadors attend regularly scheduled weekly meetings to learn about relevant program information. Other Ambassador activities include participation in a Transit to School event in May. At the end of the 3-month program, Ambassadors are invited to attend an exit interview meeting, where you have an opportunity to discuss your experiences.
