Join a Family Cycling Workshop this Spring

This spring, the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program is proud to provide Family Cycling Workshops across the county. We currently have 3 Family Cycling Workshops scheduled this spring, and we plan to have several more before the end of the school year. The Golden Sneaker Contest Starts March 3rd – Good Luck

The Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program is thrilled to launch our annual Pollution Solution Golden Sneaker Contest on March 3rd – two weeks where students, classrooms, and schools compete to see how many students can walk, roll, or carpool their way to school. Winning classrooms can win Golden Sneaker trophies, parties, and prizes! Good luck to the 70+ schools participating in this year’s contest!

Alameda County SR2S 2012-2013 Annual Report Now Available

After the winter vacation, the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program has a lot of great events planned this coming spring, like the Golden Sneaker Contest and Bike to School Day. In the meantime, we wanted to share with you our annual report of the 2012-2013 school year. Alameda City Council Proclaims October 9th “Walk and Roll to School Day!”

Alameda City Council this past Tuesday issued a proclamation declaring October 9th, 2013 to be “Walk and Roll to School Day 2013”. Safe Routes to Schools Site Coordinators Rachel Davidman and Carrie Harvilla were in attendance to receive the proclamation alongside Haight Elementary Parent Champion Meghan Thornton and her kindergartner. In reading the proclamation, Mayor Marie Gilmore noted the positive health and environmental impacts of walking and bicycling to school, along with the benefits to the broader community. Get Ready for International Walk & Roll to School Day

International Walk & Roll to School Day is right around the corner, so register today! International Walk & Roll to School Day will be celebrated worldwide on Wednesday, October 9th. Thousands of families in Alameda County will take part in this active journey by walking, biking, carpooling or rolling (using a skateboard or scooter) to school. This event is a great way to reward families that already engage in active transportation and to encourage new families to try a different form of travel. Congratulations to the 2013-2014 Alameda County SR2S Admitted Schools

It’s now official: The Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program has finalized our list of schools admitted into our program for the 2013-2014 school year. In total, we’ve admitted 97 elementary and middle schools (and 6 high schools) from all around the county into our comprehensive program. Nine other schools that applied to Safe Routes to Schools will receive technical assistance from staff in running their own program.
