Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools offers interactive and hands-on Pedestrian Safety Education classes at schools in Alameda County–absolutely free-of-charge!

A team of instructors conducts this engaging and fun-filled traffic simulation course. Students learn how long it takes them to walk one-mile, pedestrian safety tips, to recognize and avoid hazards, and the advanced skill of assessing pedestrian-related collisions. Classes are for K-8th grade students. Age-appropriate simulations and treadmills are provided for participants.

The eligibility requirements for schools are:

  • A minimum 30 students (we work in groups of 30-35 students for 35 minutes per/group)
  • School staff supervision
  • Available parking lot or playground area at least 100 by 50 feet
